What we're about:

In the age of surveillance and monitoring, privacy has been all but forgotten.  Our goal is to provide anyone with anonymity online. If you want to avoid web scams, internet stalking, spam, or web sites gathering information about you,  we promise to help you avoid these dangers as much as we can.
You can contact us by emailing emailus@publicparanoia.org

Why you should care:
Most people don't realize how much they are being tracked on the internet. For example:
  • Most web sites collect information about you!
For example, when you visit Google, they store a record you visiting the site.  They can also tell what kind of computer you have,  where you live, what web site you were just on, and a lot more.
  • Most web sites store things called "cookies" on your computer. Cookies track what kinds of things you do on the site. For example, say a web site put a cookie on your computer. The cookie tracks what kinds of web sites you visit. The next time you visit the web site that put the cookie on your computer, it can view the cookie again and see all the things you did on their web site.
  • When you put a site in your bookmarks, or favorites, the site knows that you did. Whenever you put a site in your favorites, your computer automatically sends information to the web site, letting it know that you bookmarked it.

    And much, much more.

What you can do about it:
That's why we're here!  We will provide you with links and resources to help you defend yourself on the internet.

Another tutorial on how to start up to linux live.

How to use Linux Live from a CD:
Linux Live is basically a computer system on a disc. Instead of using whatever system you have installed on your computer, you just stick a Linux Live disc in the computer, and voila, you have your own system, without leaving any traces on their computer, which means that nobody can see that you used it. One of the good things about Linux Live is that you can take it anywhere, because it is on the CD. If you need to work on a project that is saved to your Linux Live disc,  just bring the disc with you wherever you go.
There are lots of different kinds of Linux Live.  We will list some of the best on our Linux Live page.
If you forget things easily, print this page out.
This is how you use it:
  1. Put the CD in your computer
  2. Restart your computer with the CD in it.
  3. Your computer should boot to the disc automatically. If nothing happens, restart your computer again, and when the first black screen comes up, hold down the F12 key, the escape (esc) key, the F1 key, or whatever key the computer asks you to press to enter the boot menu. You will see a screen asking  what device you want to boot from. Use the arrow keys to select the words that say "CD/DVD drive", or anything that sounds like that. Press Enter to select it. If this does nothing, email us at emailus@publicparanoia.org. We will try to help you.
  4. If this works, you will be given a screen that either asks you what language you speak or asks you if you want to boot from the CD. Just press the 'enter' key.
  5. You will see a logo or picture on most Linux Live systems. The logo/picture will just sit there, looking pretty, and suddenly the screen will turn black and white text will scroll across your screen really fast. Don't worry, it is supposed to do this.
  6. If all goes well, you will see a loading screen, and then a desktop. You have successfully booted into your private system on a disc!

To stop using Live Linux, just restart your computer and take the CD out. Your system should go back to normal without any changes.

  7. Anonymous Browsing
