Method 1: Linux Live

What is Linux Live?
Linux Live is a CD that can be your own personal, portable operating system. Just put it in a computer and restart the computer and it will open up your private desktop. The advantages of using Linux Live are:
  • You can bring your files and personal programs anywhere withour having to lug your laptop with you
  • You can download whatever you want, and it will not affect the computer
  • If you have a slow computer, you can run the system from a CD, not the hard drive
  • You don't have to worry about viruses
  • Nobody can invade your privacy (unless they get a hold of your disc and guess your password)

Where can I get Linux Live?
From us, of course. If you are too lazy to make your own copy, which we will teach you how to do, you can email us at hackers@publicparanoia.org, and we will send you a free copy on a CD.
    On the email, please include:
    1. Your name
    2. Your address
    3. Your town
    4. Your State
    5. Your Country
    6. Your Continent
    7. What version on Live Linux you want
    8. Your zip code

What kinds of Live Linux are the most secure?

A lot. Here are the most secure ones, on a scale from 1 (most secure) to 10 (least secure)

      1. Incognito
Our all-time favorite Live Linux version.  Very secure. Very fast.
        Download it here: http://files1.cjb.net/incognito/incognito-i686-2008.1-r1.iso
      2. xB machine
A secure system designed by Xerobank (http://www.xerobank.com), a company that sells privacy software. This system is highly recommended. Comes with security software including a secure web browser (xBrowser), an encrypted email program (xB Mail),  and a secure Instant Messenger.
        Download it here: http://xerobank.com/images/button_downloadnow.png
      3. AnonymOS
A highly secure system based on OpenBSD that hides whatever you are doing behind a wall of code and secrecy. Very, very secure and very easy to use. If you are a beginner, we highly recommend AnonymOS becuase of it's speed and how easy it is to use. One of the coolest things about AnonymOS is that it will pretend you are running Windows XP, which means that nobody can tell that you are running AnonymOS.  It will scan your area for a wireless network and connect to it quickly.
        Download here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/anonym-os/anonymos-shmoo.iso?modtime=1137231975&big_mirror=0
      4. Anonymity Anywhere
This is another version of Incognito with the same basic features, but Incognito is faster and more secure. We highly recommend Incognito over this. But if you really want to try this out, you can download it at http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/3665091/TorK_LiveCD_Testing_Only.3665091.TPB.torrent

      5. Phantomix
Phantomix is a secure LiveCD based on Knoppix. Phantomix is a secure system that comes with a variety of apps, including:
        •  KDE 3.4.1
        •  Kernel 2.6.12
        •  KDiff3
        •  Emacs
        •  JuK
        •  Audacity
        •  K3b Kaffeine
        •  XMMS
        •  GIMP
        •  Firefox
        • Thunderbird
        •  Ethereal
        •  Xchat
          Download it here: ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/Linux/LOCAL/phantomix/phantomix-4.0.2.iso

          6. OnionOS
OnionOS is a LiveCD version based on the popular TOR anonymity network. While it can be a little slow, and it is a very hard to use, we find that it has some great benifits. Download at http://www.box750.cotse.net/onionOS-080223.iso

          7.
          BackTrack
This is a strange LiveCD. While it doesn't offer much in terms of anonymity, it allows you to test a computer for any security problems, such as weak passwords, unsecured internet, or exploits that have not been fixed.  "Why do you include it here if it doesnt help us with anonymity?" you ask? We don't know.  We just thought it might strike the interest of some people.  Download it here: http://www.remote-exploit.org/cgi-bin/fileget?version=bt3-cd

          8. ParanoidLinux
We thought this was interesting. Although it is not officially out yet, the project has invoked our curiosity. Here is how it's makers describe it:

"Paranoid Linux is an operating system that assumes that its operator is under assault from the government (it was intended for use by Chinese and Syrian dissidents), and it does everything it can to keep your communications and documents a secret. It even throws up a bunch of "chaff" communications that are supposed to disguise the fact that you're doing anything covert. So while you're receiving a political message one character at a time, ParanoidLinux is pretending to surf the Web and fill in questionnaires and flirt in chat-rooms. Meanwhile, one in every five hundred characters you receive is your real message, a needle buried in a huge haystack. "
